What Is Subfertility And How To Increase Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant

Diets

Nothing in life is a given and many couples that are trying to conceive will attest to this. For many, it’s an uncomfortable time as answers can be hard to find, especially when you are unsure of the questions in the first place.

An overarching theme or undercurrent to this blog post is that losing weight is a great thing to do for you and for your partner. It may well unlock your fertility issues and the other benefits are also just as important and rewarding.

So, if you are struggling to conceive and you or your partner are overweight, subfertility may be your issue.

Subfertility means that it’s taking you longer than average to get pregnant. This is not to be confused with infertility. Infertility, once diagnosed, requires medical intervention for pregnancy to occur. Subfertility is generally classed as a minimum of one year but you may have been trying longer. However, conception may prove elusive and if you are over the age of 35, then you need to assess the state of your health sooner rather than later.

This brings us back to losing weight. If we know that being overweight has a negative bearing on fertility then it makes sense to address that issue. If your BMI reading tells you that you are in the danger zone then that is a cue for action.

Weight

Fertility

Pregnancy

The three are interlinked.

Lose weight and you will increase your chances of conceiving‘ is the title of an ebook we produced to help couples find out more about the relationship between subfertility and overweight.

We are not a fertility clinic but the key takeaway is that losing weight is one of the best things you can do:

  1. It’s good for your body and mind so conception will be easier.
  2. If you have to proceed to a medical interventionist route (fertility treatment), a lighter and healthier body is a significant bonus. Just ask any fertility specialist.

Since we first opened our first clinic, we have helped hundreds of couples to change their lifestyles and that in turn has enabled them to lose weight quickly and to go on and conceive. Ask any of our consultants, and they’ll tell you, it’s probably one of the most rewarding aspects of our job.
